Sukkot!

Dear Parents,

The children have been very busy this week learning all about the holiday of Sukkot!
We discussed the special Mitzvah (commandment from the Torah) to sit in a Sukkah.
In addition, we learnt about the Mitzvah of shaking and saying a special blessing on the "4 kinds"- a lulav (date palm frond), an etrog (citron), at least three hadassim (myrtle branches) and two aravot (willow branches)

To help us understand some of the concepts of this holy day, we....

  • The children made a welcome sign for the sukkah in Hebrew.
  • The children decorated  :match it" cards to reinforce the topic of the 4 kinds that we shake on Sukkot.
  • The children decorated their own hands on sukkah using various materials.
We sang....a hebrew song for Sukkotr called

1.     "Ba, Ba, Chag Ha'sukkot Ba....Chag Sameach."
2.     "b'yom Rishon Om'rim Shalom....B'chag Ha'sukot, Chag Sa'me'ach"

May you have a joyous Sukkot!

Yom Kippur is just a day away!
The children learned all about this very special day in class.
We made honey cake today  for a sweet new year!

To help us understand some of the concepts of this holy day, we....

  • The children decorated a "spin wheel" with the things we do not do on Yom Kippur.
  • The children walked to the bay and said a special prayer for a good year- ( it is a custom to go to a bay of water and "throw away out sins" before Yom Kippur )
  • The children learned about the concept of giving extra charity before Yom Kippur. A custom we do before Yom Kippur is a chicken is given to poor people as an atonement for our sins.
We sang....a hebrew song for Yom Kippur called

"Ba, Ba, Yom Hakipurim Ba....."

May you be written and sealed for a sweet new year!
